All about Makan

"Makan", this word means eat in the Malay language. Makan should gently tickle your tongue when you say it and hopefully rings in your ear and whet your appetite. In Malaysia (and I dare say, in many other countries), eating is our favorite past time. We talk about what we are going to eat later, where are the best places to eat, and even while eating, we still talk about food. We even dedicate weekends to go for food hunting! Needless to say, it is also now compulsary to take pictures of your food before eating them. Food always tastes better when eating with loved ones. And best way to bring back childhood memories are also associated with food cooked by mommy and daddy and granny. What better way there is than to use food as a platform to bring cultures together. I digress...

So what is Makan e.V. about?

Makan e.V., a Cultural Club, which is established very recently in February 2015 in Frankfurt, is set up with a goal in mind: to bridge cultures through sight, sound and taste. Events will be organized to focus on informal cultural education via:

  • Sight: be it short film festivals, documentary, photo exhibitions, traditional cultural dance, contemporary dance, traditional board games

  • Sound:  musical acts

  • Taste: food festival, cooking show, supperclubs, cooking lessons

So come join us to bring cultures together through Makan.
